7 Android apps and games to remember Akira Toriyama

Last Friday, the death of Akira Toriyama, creator of Dragon Ball, Dr. Slump and many other manga that left their mark on millions of young people, generation after generation, was made public.

As a fan and follower of his work, I would like to pay a small tribute to the artist today, sharing some of the most interesting apps and games where you can enjoy the splendid art, designs and stories of Toriyama sensei.

Dragon Ball: Official App

The official Dragon Ball app for mobile devices. It has a news section, articles that deal with different topics from the Dragon Ball Universe, as well as videos, lists of figures and more.

It also has a section called “Toriyama Archives” where they publish an illustration, interview or design by Toriyama that can only be seen for 24 hours (afterwards it disappears).

Manga Plus

Without a doubt, the best way to remember the legacy of the Japanese mangaka is to read one of his countless mangas. On Manga Plus you can read the new issues of Dragon Ball Super for free, where he still participated in writing the plot.

The entire Dragon Ball series is also available, although in this case it is necessary to subscribe to the premium version of Manga Plus to be able to read all the chapters (except for the first 3 issues, which are free).

CHRONO TRIGGER

Akira Toriyama also had a successful career in the world of video game art design. Chrono Trigger is one of the most memorable RPG games for the Super Nintendo, and was released in 1995, a time when Toriyama was at the peak of his artistic career.

Chrono Trigger is packed with some seriously awesome illustrations and animations, and this official Android port lets you enjoy it on your mobile screen, almost 30 years after its release. This Play Store version is an updated version , with auto-save and some minor improvements.

DRAGON QUEST III

Chrono Trigger was not the first video game in which Toriyama expressed his art. Dragon Quest III is for many the best title in the original Dragon Quest trilogy , and although it was originally published in 1988 for the NES, the version that has lasted the longest is the remake that was published for the Super Nintendo.

This Dragon Quest III for Android is the remake version for Super Nintendo, and it is without a doubt one of the best classic RPGs you can find on the Play Store. If you get a taste for the genre, you can find ports of many other installments of the saga, all of them also with the seal of Akira Toriyama in the artistic section.

Crunchyroll

Crunchyroll is the largest anime platform internationally, and you can find hundreds of anime available. Here in Spain, Dragon Ball Super, the latest movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, as well as recent anime such as Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Day are available .

The Crunchyroll catalog is almost endless, so depending on your country of residence you can access some content or others. Of course, remember that some chapters are free while for others you will have to be subscribed to enjoy viewing.

Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle

One of the few official Dragon Ball games for Android. Dokkan Battle has been on the Play Store for years, receiving very good reviews and already has more than 50 million downloads. Its gameplay is a mix of puzzles and action, where we must collect ki balls to attack the enemy.

If you like the game you may also be interested to know that there is a Japanese version available in the Play Store . It is the same game, but with the advantage that the new content is published earlier than in the international version.

Dragon Ball Legends

We finish the review with the latest official Dragon Ball game for mobile phones. Dragon Ball Legends leaves aside the more casual format of Dokkan Battle and opts for more action-oriented gameplay.

The game may have some interest for completists of Toriyama’s work, since it includes an exclusive character designed by the artist for this game . The graphics use three-dimensional designs never seen before in a Dragon Ball mobile game, and also includes a Player Versus Player mode. A very complete and fun title.
