Etymology

From the Greek empeiría: experience, and critkh1: judge.

Creators

Created by Richard Avenarius and continued by Ernst Mach . They considered that the fundamental law of knowledge is the economy of thinking.

Definition

It is defined as a subjective idealism , it aims to reach an absolutely scientific philosophy through an epistemology that considers the economy of thinking as the fundamental law of knowledge, the conception of the experience of the concepts of matter conceives them as legitimately assigned to experience.

In pure experience, empirical data is constituted by physical and psychological facts, being a synthesis of internal and external experience, with the central nervous system mediating between them .

It reduces everything that exists to positive facts, that is, to what experience immediately presents to us, such as colors or sounds. Sensation is, therefore, the only basic element of psychic life, as well as scientific laws, which are a copy and simplification of a multitude of observed facts.

Goals

Its object is to delimit the forms of what they call pure experience.

Principle Coordination Theory

It is the indissoluble connection between subject and object .

All natural sciences can only present complexes of the elements that we ordinarily call sensations. It is about the relationships between these elements. The relationship between A (heat) and B (flame) belongs to physics; The relationship between A and N (nerves) belongs to physiology. Neither of these relations exists separately; both exist together.

Criticism

Lenin , in his work “Materialism and empiriocriticism” , revealed the reactionary social role of this philosophical current, its connection with fideism .

The objective role of empirio-criticism is absolutely reduced to serving the fideists, in their fight against materialism in general and against historical materialism in particular.
