Helldivers 2 | How Enemy Armor Piercing Works

Although in Helldivers 2 there are enough enemies for our entire arsenal to be viable, at the highest levels of difficulty (or even medium) we need to have heavy weapons to be able to eliminate certain buggers or hulks that the initial weapons are not enough of the game. However, as they are the ones we use the most in our battles on the war fronts of the Arrowhead Game Studios game , here we want to tell you how these weapons work in detail and how to take advantage of the characteristics of some of them in terms of piercing the armor .

Light vs Medium Drilling in Helldivers 2

Just take a look at the description of some weapons in Helldivers 2 to see that many of them have the Light Armor Piercing trait . It is the type of armor worn by most of the basic enemies in the game, both the Terminids and the Automata (although these usually have more armor plates to deal with our attacks).

However, at advanced levels of difficulty – from Complicated onwards – most bugs and robots seem to be immune to our attacks, that’s because they already have medium or heavy armor. The tights are what we can find on enemies such as Bile Spitters or Berserkers and perhaps on some variant of Warriors or even soldiers. We will know this because when we hit with our initial weapons an icon appears of a bullet bouncing off a shield, or we will directly see that they do not stop or suffer damage and we will see the rebounds in reality.

Given this, it is imperative to use damage-over-time weapons such as incendiary grenades, flamethrowers , or even stratagems with greater firepower to eliminate these enemies. However, it is still possible to attack them since their armor does not cover their entire body. We already said in our guide against the chargers , for example, that they have their rear exposed . But the fact is that there are certain weapons and stratagems that can destroy these medium and heavy type armor, since they are specialized in piercing medium type armor, although one shot will certainly not be enough.

Weapons to destroy medium and heavy armor

Knowing this, what you should do every time you are going to do a mission that is one of the most advanced difficulty levels in the game is to select one of the following options to deal with the most armored enemies in the game:

  • JAR-5 Dominator(Currently only available in the Seasoned Veterans war bonus)
  • AR-23P Penetrated Liberator(Tier 6 Helldivers War Bonds, Mobilize)
  • Disposable anti-tank(support)
  • Recoilless rifle(support)
  • Rail Weapon(support)

Alternatives or soft counters

In case you still do not have these weapons or are trying to accumulate resources to unlock them, here are some that can be substitutes for them to give you space, time, and the possibility of eliminating enemies from the game.

  • Anti-equipment Rifle: It is easy to target uncovered or exposed areas of the enemy (it is more useful against automatons).
  • Automatic Cannon: Against some lightly armored enemies it can be used to slow or eliminate them (as in the case of Reconnaissance Bipods)
  • LAS-5 Scythe: A type of shotgun that uses lightning bolts and, although lightly armored, is capable of doing some damage over time.
  • SG-225IE Incendiary Breaker: Premium War Bonus shotgun that deals fire damage and slightly destabilizes some armored enemies (but not heavier ones).
  • PLAS-1 Scorching: Alternative to the previous option (SG-225IE). Although it is part of the final tier of the basic War Bonus, due to its superior damage and energy explosions it is a viable alternative to inflict some additional damage on more armored enemies.
