How to Reset 08 Civic Oil Light

If you own a 2008 Honda Civic and have recently performed an oil change, you may have noticed that the oil light on the dashboard is still illuminated. This is a common issue that many Civic owners face, but fortunately, it is easy to reset the oil light so that it turns off. In this article, we will guide you through the simple steps to reset the oil light on your 08 Civic.

Step 1: Turn on the Ignition

The first step to resetting the oil light on your 08 Civic is to ensure that the ignition is set to the “ON” position. You do not need to start the engine, simply turn the key to the “ON” position so that the dashboard lights are illuminated.

Step 2: Locate the Trip Button

Next, you will need to locate the trip button on your dashboard. In most 08 Civic models, the trip button is located near the speedometer or tachometer. It may be labeled as “TRIP” or have a small picture of a wrench next to it.

Step 3: Press and Hold the Trip Button

Once you have located the trip button, press and hold it for about 10 seconds. You may need to use a pen or other small tool to press the button firmly. While holding the trip button, you will notice that the oil light on the dashboard begins to flash.

Step 4: Release the Trip Button

After holding the trip button for 10 seconds, release it. The oil light should now stop flashing and remain off. This indicates that the oil light has been successfully reset.

Step 5: Turn off the Ignition

Finally, turn off the ignition to complete the reset process. You can now start your 08 Civic as usual, and the oil light should remain off. If the oil light continues to illuminate, you may need to repeat the reset process or consult a mechanic for further assistance.
By following these simple steps, you can easily reset the oil light on your 2008 Honda Civic. It is important to reset the oil light after each oil change to ensure that your Civic continues to run smoothly. If you have any issues or questions regarding resetting the oil light, feel free to reach out to a professional or refer to your Civic’s owner’s manual for additional guidance.
