Julio Pulido

Julio Rolando Pulido Castillo ( Havana , May 27 , 1947 ) is a Cuban director and screenwriter with an outstanding career in television. He has been director of programs such as Sabadazo and Entre Amigos .

Biographical summary

He graduated in Art History from the University of Havana . She completed a postgraduate degree in Spanish Television.

Career path

In 1962 he joined the then newly created Cuban Institute of Radio Broadcasting, currently the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT). In the beginning he served as a general assistant, an activity that he interrupted when he voluntarily joined Active Military Service. After fulfilling this duty, he returned to the ICRT and served as lighting and remote control assistant. This new occupation made it possible for him to relate to technology and learn from the simplest to the most complex, which is how he develops his daily work on TV.

Due to his vast experience, acquired in making live programs alongside technical teams, he became a director. From there, his audiovisual imagery forms part of his creative work. His first program was Time to Tell , made especially for children.

Since his beginning as director of musical programs, he treasured documents and interacted with relevant artists, musicians and cultural personalities, who at different times managed to insert their footprints in the musical artistic work, given their contributions to Cuban popular music through television.

He has ventured into television series, among which Heraldos del Amor stands out , a work that won a Spanish Television award. He also makes another one called Reflexiones , in which the singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez is the main figure.

The music video clip has not been missing from his extensive professional resume. She has made five videos for the National Folkloric Ensemble and the singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez, among other artists.

Sports have also had a notable presence in his career, participating as a TV director in four Olympics and the same number of Pan American Games.

Among its most notable programs , Sabadazo stands out , a space that enjoyed great popular acceptance and gave the possibility of knowing what was most valuable and shining in the nineties within Cuban humor, a manifestation that undoubtedly played the leading role in the program.

Of the most successful musicals directed by Pulido, La download and more recently Entre Amigos stand out . In both projects Julio Acanda has assumed the direction, thus he has been sharing performances on screen with the renowned director for more than 12 years.

It is worth recognizing that Cuban musicians of great excellence, with a very notable career, as well as new artists and even unknown to the general public, are presented in a sustained manner in the musical projects directed by Pulido.

Versatile in his capacity as scriptwriter and program director, he is valued for a high-quality performance in a media where he has left a mark of great professionalism and talent.

Awards and honours

He has various recognitions, mentions and national and international Television awards, among them those awarded by the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, as well as in Prague , Czechoslovakia , for a program dedicated to the music of maestro Ernesto Lecuona and the renowned pianist and composer Frank Fernández .

It holds the Distinction for National Culture .

He was awarded the 2014 National Television Award , in recognition of a lifetime dedicated to this medium, and the Popularity Award “Between you and me” in that same year.
