Pokémon Scarlet and Purple: How Duraludon Can Dominate Competitive

Pokémon Scarlet and Purple are the most recent installments of the main series. These games have remained very relevant thanks to their fun and competitive multiplayer, which has brought out the best in trainers.

The official championships have been a lot of fun due to the novelties that these games brought to the table . This includes new features such as Teracrystallization , Paradox variants , easier access to Mints , and the arrival of new monsters through Pokémon Home .

But the new Pokémon Scarlet and Purple DLC titled The Indigo Disk could shake things up once again when it comes to competitive play.

Meet Duraludon, a Pokémon that we will soon hear a lot about

Duraludon was introduced in the eighth generation, where it was popular for a time due to its Dragon and Steel typing, among other reasons. Unfortunately, it wasn’t included in the base game of Pokémon Scarlet and Purple , so we haven’t heard about it in a while.

The powerful Duraludon has 535 base stat points, of which its Special Attack and Defense stand out. He has only two weaknesses: to Fighting and Ground types. On the other hand, it is resistant to Steel, Water, Bug, Normal, Psychic, Rock, Flying and Electric types. In addition, it is Super Resistant to the Grass type and Immune to the Poison type.

Duraludon was Roy’s signature Pokémon in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Not only did he have tremendous moves like Iron Head, Sharp Rock, Vast Impact, and Body Plank; But he also hides another ace up his sleeve. Duraludon has a Gigantamax form that is tremendously strong in combat.

With the Light Metal ability, Duraludon is one of the Pokémon with the most potential. And now it will be demonstrated with its new evolution presented in The Indigo Disc of Pokémon Scarlet and Purple .

Duraludon’s potential in Pokémon Scarlet and Purple

Many fans are excited about the return of Duraludon in Pokémon Scarlet and Purple , as well as the introduction of its new evolution: Archaludon.

It is not the first time that the series offers us a new evolution of a Pokémon from previous games. The thing is that in some cases, these Pokémon end up being too strong.

We already have a precedent with the popular Kingambit, the evolution of Bisharp from the fifth generation. This Pokémon not only became very popular with its new evolution, but also became an essential part of many competitive teams . Some professionals won the regionals with the help of Kingambit on their teams.

But there is another precedent whose case is very similar to that of Duraludon and Archaludon. In fact, history could repeat itself with this one in Pokémon Scarlet and Purple .

It is nothing less than Corsola. This adorable Pokémon from the second generation also received a Galar variant that unlocked the new evolution: Cursola.

Cursola itself was not that strong. However, by counting as a new evolution, he allowed Corsola to equip himself with the Evolutionary Ore. This item grants a 50% increase to Defense and Special Defense if the Pokémon can still evolve.

This simple item made Corsola a tank that quickly became the nightmare of many trainers. It is very similar to what happened with Porygon2, which could take advantage of its defensive statistics and its great palette of movements.

But things will be even worse with Duraludon, a Pokémon that has the resistant Steel type and already has a good Special Defense and an even better Defense. Now that you can equip the Evolutionary Ore, your defensive capabilities will skyrocket. Added to its excellent types, Duraludon itself could dominate competitive very soon.

Things also look promising for Archaludon, its new evolution, which will share its same types with a very likely increase in statistics. Everything indicates that the goal of Pokémon Scarlet and Purple and the following games could be affected with the arrival of these monsters in The Indigo Disc.
