The most common thing when using a shared computer is to create different user accounts so that each person can have their private profile and keep their files and documents away from other users.

Windows user accounts play a fundamental and very important role in the security and privacy of the computer since each of them is associated with a specific person with a username and password.

Additionally, each account can set its own permissions and restrictions, so each user will only be able to access their own files and not those of other users.

Also, the use of different Windows user accounts allows the system administrator to have complete control of who accesses or who can access that computer, and everything they can do from their accounts.

Lastly, each user account can keep a record of actions taken by each user which can help troubleshoot and troubleshoot issues, as well as identify potential suspicious actions.

RECOVER WINDOWS USER PASSWORD FROM CMD

It is inevitable when different user accounts are used on a computer that some of them forget their access data and cannot access their account, and therefore their files saved in their space.

In this situation, and before resigning yourself to formatting the computer and losing all the saved files, if you have not made a backup copy before, and all the settings, you can always try to recover Windows user password .

And how do we do this? Well, it is basically achieved by exploiting a vulnerability that all versions of Windows have, from Windows 7 to the latest released version of Windows 11 .

The steps to recover a Windows user password are detailed below.

1️⃣ You have reached the user screen of your Windows account where you must enter your access data such as Username and password.

On this screen, you must use the menu that you will see in the lower right corner of the screen to restart the computer by holding down the SHIFT key (Up arrow key).

Once the computer starts loading the recovery screen, release the SHIF key.

2️⃣ Of the options available on the recovery screen, you have to enter the Troubleshoot option .

3️⃣ And within the options available within Troubleshoot, you have to select the Advanced Options .

4️⃣ And finally, within the Advanced Options of the Troubleshoot section, you have to enter Command Prompt to try to recover Windows user password using CMD .

5️⃣ This is when the Windows Command Prompt command console opens so you can write the necessary commands to recover the Windows user password or replace it with a new one.

6️⃣ You will see that by default the command console opens in the virtual drive X:/Windows/System32, and what you have to do is move to the same folder but on your main drive with the commands:

• c:
• cd windows
• cd system32

7️⃣ Once you are inside the System32 directory of the Windows directory on the main drive, you must rename the magnify.exe file using the command:ren magnify.exe magnify2.exe

8️⃣ The next step copies the cmd.exe file and rename it to magnify.exe with the command:copy cmd.exe magnify.exe

Then, just close the Command Prompt window and click continue to restart your computer.

9️⃣ Now comes the important thing to recover a Windows user password on the computer, since once restarted, you have to access the accessibility menu that you will see in the lower right corner and enable the magnifying glass.

It is precisely the original file that enables the magnifying glass that we have renamed and replaced with the command prompt in the previous steps, so the command window should open and not the magnifying glass.

Knowing your username on that Windows computer, we are going to change the password associated with that user with a new password with the command:net user nombreusuario contraseña

Remember that you must replace the command “nombreusuario”with your Windows username and “contraseña”the password you want to use.

Close the command prompt window and restart your computer to verify that the process worked correctly and you can access your Windows user account.

The only drawback that this bug has to recover a Windows user password is that it would also be possible to use it to change the password of the system administrator on that computer.
